Finding Out The Needs of The Community

As we promised, we went to Deuxième Plaine, Petit Goave, to conduct a thorough research regarding the greatest needs of the community. Almost with unanimity the people we interviewed (a large sample of the community) mentioned two things as the greatest need of the community of Sous Rigole: A health center and a school. Since we are not doctors, and since it is also much more complicated to found a health center there, we have decided, or we have confirmed our decision, to pant a school in Sous Rigole starting September 2020.

We told the people upfront that God will be at the center of everything we do, and that it is by faith in him that we set out to found a ministry in their neighborhood to serve them. Many of them are not believers yet, but we strongly believe the field is ready for a harvest. Since February we have been talking to the people when we still did not know whether we would buy the property or not. They tell us every time they will join a church if one is founded in their midst. Of course, there is one church in the community, but the people we have been talking to seldom go there for various reasons. Whenever we asked them to join us to pray and seek God's will about the property, they readily joined us in prayer even if they have not yet committed their lives to Jesus.

We are not planning to have a church building on campus, but we surely will have a church that will meet in the school cafeteria on Sunday for worship service. When the time comes to have a building, the church will buy their own property nearby to build their church building. The school cafeteria, in addition to being used as a place for students to eat, it will be used for chapel service for the school students during the week, and for worship on Sunday.

Gina and I have been living by faith since we became believers, and God has never disappointed us. That is the reason why we are not afraid to attempt great things for God, and we also expect great things from him. We already envision that together we will lift up Jesus Christ in the community of Sous Rigole, so that he may draw all the children and young people and their parents to him. To him alone be the glory and the honor forever and ever. Amen!
